Flanders Fire Company No 1

Lost Our 2nd Assistant Chief Tom Shields

This was our first Line of Duty Death in our 87 year history of serving Flanders and the nearby communities.  Upon returning to the firehouse from an EMS call for an unresponsive child, Assistant Chief Shields began to experience chest pains.  Not feeling well, he returned home to his wife, whom recognized the signs of a heart attack and called 911.

Assistant Chief Shields was transported to Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville, where he subsequently pass away.

Tom started as a volunteer with the emergency services in 1986 with the West Paterson Fire Department, where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  In 2005, Tom relocated his family to Flanders and joined the Flanders Fire Company, where he quickly rose to the rank of 2nd Assistant Chief.

The Flanders Fire Company No 1 is determined not to let the memory of Tom's dedication to his family nor to his larger family the Flanders Fire Company waiver.  We have setup this Annual Memorial Classic to keep his memory alive and continue his support of the community that he loved and cherished.  The proceeds of the Memorial Classic supports the education of children within the community of Mt Olive.

The Flanders Fire Company family ask your assistance in keeping Tom's  memory and support for his community alive.  Come out and join us for what is sure to be a memorable day on the golf course.  If you can't join us, please think about becoming a sponsor.

We thank you for all your support.
